Effects of Sequential Hydrogen Peroxide Applications on Salt Stress Tolerance in Bread Wheat Varieties

Salinity is affecting plant growth and development. Low concentration of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) has shown to be effective against various stress factors. In this study, effect different H2O2 priming methods on growth, physiological biochemical parameters in three wheat varieties (NKÜ Lider, Sultan-95, Tosunbey) under salt were investigated. Salt (0 160 mM NaCl) was applied gradually 100 µM (-H2O2: negative control, no application; H2O2: positive μM applied; 1xH2O2: one year ago; 2xH2O2: second time after year) seedlings. Biochemical results showed that the lowest level NKÜ Lider variety -H2O2 1xH2O2 groups. The thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) Tosunbey 2xH2O2 group. highest superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity variety, all pre-treatment caused an increase SOD activity. However, TBARS levels increased application groups except group, while amount decreased MnSOD not detected any CuZnSOD Sultan-95 compared FeSOD. better tolerated stress, second-applied eliminated improved growth. conclusion, it determined re-pre-treatment seeds resulted improvement tolerant exposed stress.
